Abstract
This study was designed to evaluate the reliability of a random Bekesy audiometry system. In 20 subjects (40 ears), conventional audiometry (Orbiter 922 system) and AMA-PTA audiometry (AMA-PTA 134 system) were conducted simultaneously. Through this study, 2-6 dB threshold differences were observed between the 6-band audiometry threshold of these two study. Taking the different 0 dB curve used for each audiometry system, our result support the reliability of this new random Bekesy audiometry system. On the contrary, significant time saving was noted. Generally, five minutes are needed to perform the conventional audiometry but only 90 seconds were needed to perform the AMA-PTA audiometry. It¡¯s mainly due to the automated selection of frequency and loudness level of stimulus. With this new, automated audiometry, there can be a big time-saving for performing the pure tone audiometry.
